Katura Halleday is the main character of the short film “Katura’s Story”.
"I really want to know what it's like to live there, so I can go back and tell everyone." Australian documentary film by Jude Kalman was in the 2019 LAMPA Film Festival competition.
In the picture is Katura Halleday, she is 14, Katura loves history, science and drawing. She dreams of creating an app that could help poor regions and developing countries to get the help that they need immediately.
At the same time, on the other side of the Indian Ocean in the Republic of Mozambique there are Katura's peers. They are united not only by age and a desire for development, but also by reluctance to live in a world in which unequal living conditions for equals are possible.
Katura found a way to overcome the inequality through her interest in painting and selling her own paintings, the girl raised funds to educate two female students at a high school in Mozambique, and later she met them and supported the Australian Christian charity Mission Educate's programme.
"I struggled internally with the very concept: I have more opportunities in life just because of the place where I was born. I felt the need to do something," admits Katura.
Jude Kalman's work and Katura's experience are the examples that equate 'speaking up' with 'doing', and an inspiration for people of all ages, races and religions. It is a story about the limitless possibilities of an open heart and what is behind one good deed!
