About film

At the age of six, director Kent Donguines’ mother left him and his family to become a nanny. Years later, his film Kalinga (Care) shares the stories of several Filipina caregivers and nannies in Vancouver, who made great sacrifices for their children. It happens that some Filipino women leave their home country to earn money abroad so that they could give their children a bright future. There they become part of the family that they are looking after, not just a nanny or a caregiver. But at the same time they risk losing close ties with their family, especially with their kids, who live with their relatives or nannies.
